At PRF, we want to protect and preserve our planet’s nature and biodiversity and promote sustainable development. We do this through a holistic mindset and mission-driven investments that make a difference for both people and the planet.
The Biodiversity Crisis
Our planet is facing a deepening biodiversity crisis-driven by unsustainable systems of production and consumption that threaten the natural world we all depend on.
The biodiversity crisis is characterised by biodiversity loss of 70%+ over the last 50 years, and is mainly due to human activity, including business practices and economic and governance systems, that are harmful to nature. Combined, the resource-intensive provisioning systems of the built environment, mobility, food and energy, account for about 90% of global material demand, 70% of climate impacts and more than 80% of biodiversity loss and water stress.*
Our Aspiration
To reverse biodiversity loss in the world’s most biodiversity-rich areas under threat, we need to focus our activities in these areas (primarily Global South), and in the countries primarily driving the biodiversity loss, which are countries the Global North.
